The Financial Controller is responsible for establishing, leading, and managing the financial controlling function for Egypt’s high-speed rail project. This includes budget cost control, revenue control, performance (KPI) monitoring, and reporting, ensuring full transparency and alignment with corporate objectives. The role serves as a strategic business partner to the CFO / senior management and the client, providing financial insights and root cause analysis to deviations.
Responsibilities:
- Manages and coordinates the controlling team and is a Business Partner to Top Management and the Client.
- Leads and develops a team of three functions: a Financial KPI Analyst (penalty impact) and Cost Controllers (budget and cost base),
- Oversee monthly close and Management reporting (Plan/Actual/YTD), of cost budgets delivering clear commentary and advise best way to keep the cost to budget.
- Present customer/authority reporting packs were contractually required, with driver-based explanations for deviations.
- Manage KPI/penalty exposure with the Financial KPI Analyst: monitor operational KPIs (e.g., punctuality, cancellations, availability), quantify penalties, explain deviations, and align countermeasures with Operations.
- Govern data quality, systems, and processes; strengthen internal controls, standardize reporting, and coach the team to improve cadence, automation, and insight quality.
- Maintain risk and opportunity registers; run scenario and sensitivity analyses (e.g., energy prices, wage indexation, ridership changes) and recommend mitigations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance or controlling
- 6 +years professional experience in the field of expertise
- Analytical, driver-based mindset with strong commercial acumen
- Excellent communication skills for clear variance explanations and stakeholder alignment (internal and external). Proficient in preparing professional and visually appealing financial documents and presentations related to controlling key stakeholders.
- Understanding of Finance Operations: Possesses a good understanding of the overall finance department's operations, providing effective support to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and other stakeholders.
- Administrative Systems: Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, updating, and monitoring administrative systems within the finance department, particularly focusing on controlling functions.
- Solution-Oriented Mindset: Proactively identifies and implements improvements to streamline controlling processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in financial data interpretation and reporting.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: Capable of leading a team, interacting effectively with senior management and fostering collaboration.
- Intercultural Sensitivity: Ability to work with a diverse workforce in intercultural environments, promoting inclusivity and cultural sensitivity.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP Systems: Proficient in using MS Office tools (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and the relevant ERP system to leverage technology for efficient controlling support, financial analysis, and reporting.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in both written and spoken English and Arabic
