Job description

What will you be doing?


Supporting a wide variety of stakeholders across the business, as well as coordinating projects cross-functionally, setting and delivering on agreed timescales.


Working with internal customers to ensure inputs needed for the Procurement function are available.


Working closely on Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), including contract and performance reviews.



Work with other colleagues within DB Group to ‘bundle’ spends/improve efficiency in order to apply maximum supplier leverage.


Supporting and standing in for the Head of Procurement where necessary. Working to promote Procurement’s added value around our business.


Develop, implement and refresh category plans which examine the marketplace and identify savings, actions and targets right across the product lifecycle.


Tender, evaluation and negotiation of long-term supply contracts complete with terms and conditions.


Negotiation and implementation of contract variations to protect budgets.


Use risk management disciplines to mitigate supply chain risks with clear implementation plans.


Launch price enquiries with suppliers against new bids and evaluate/negotiate offers in a timely and effective manner in line with category strategy (Operational).


Lead the supplier qualification process for new and existing sources of supply against allocated Indirect Categories.


Manage the team, including responsibility for appraisals, absence, and all HR related matters, as well as supporting the team with their wider continued professional development.


What are we looking for? 


An individual who has experience working in a large organisation, or multi-site environment.


You will hold a Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification.


Experience specifically within the procurement of goods and services for everyday consumables on a large, or multi-site scale.


You will be a confident leader with experience of managing a team of experience procurement professionals as well as those at the start of their career.


Be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills and self-motivation and able to manage their own workload with a holistic view to the wider teams aims and objectives. 


Demonstrate and aptitude to complete projects from start to finish ensuring high quality and consistency throughout. 


Excellent written communication skills are also essential for this position.


You will be able to demonstrate an ability to problem solve and communicate well with other departments easily, as well as the ability to establish rapport with all levels of management.


Commercial acumen will be evident in your thought processes and will have the ability to balance both cost saving and the best interests of the business.


You will have a continuous improvement mindset whilst reviewing DB Cargo’s processes and practices.


Demonstrable experience in negotiations and in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).

About us

Introduction DB Cargo UK is currently recruiting for a Group Procurement Manager to join our Procurement department based at Toton, Nottingham. You will be responsible for ensuring that cost saving targets are being met against allocated categories of supply and that on time delivery are met to an agreed plan whilst not compromising on quality and contract coverage. You will ensure that each category has a robust plan to allocated for it to be in line with the team’s strategic plan. You will be working closely with suppliers to ensure a strong business relationship is achieved and driving innovation throughout the supply chain by introducing new products and systems which will eliminate waste. Our Group Procurement Team manages all the purchasing of goods and services that are needed to support our daily operations. They source and negotiate terms for the purchasing of items and ensure that records are kept accurate and up to date. There will also be a requirement for travel with this position therefore a full UK driving licence is required to access a pool vehicle. The salary for this position is up to £52,000.00 depending on experience.
