We are looking for you as a Junior Planner Train Service Planning (f/m/x) for an upcoming project of DB International Operations in Canada.


Join us to develop the future of North American rail travel and create a unique lighthouse project. The project on the East Coast entails developing operation and maintenance of a new railway corridor to enhance public transport in the region. We are looking for transport and mobility enthusiasts with long-standing experience in railway operations and projects in Canada or worldwide to be part of this unique project in case of contract award.


Your Tasks:


  • Develop Train Service Plan for network: Develop the network and train service plan for new and legacy services to achieve the project requirements. Support the steering of the consultants supporting the TSP developments.
  • Support Infrastructure Development: Assist in evaluating and endorsing future infrastructure developments (e.g. track, stations) from a train service perspective to ensure that the network can meet upcoming train service needs as well as On-Time performance requirements.
  • Collaborate on project needs with Operational Team of DB: Work closely with team for the operational planning (e.g. maintenance, customer experience, operational control) to establish processes and planning rules for the new network to achieve the project outcome and minimize the cost.
  • Manage the Stakeholders: Work closely together within a team of consortium partners and contracting authority to develop an overall profitable and attractive rail system. Moderate between different views and needs to achieve the best results for the project.
  • Develop Ridership Forecast: Support the development of a Ridership model for the corridor and use the model to evaluate the effect on Ridership of different Trains Service Plans
  • Co-ordinate with Senior Management: Assist in collaborating with the Senior Management Team (SMT) on preparing the required deliverables for every stage of the project for the Train Service deliverables.
  • Monitor Performance and KPI: Establish and track benchmarks, goals, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that align with project and corporate objectives. You’ll contribute to assessing team performance and ensuring that projects meet organizational standards.
  • Co-ordinate Requirement Management: Monitor, discuss, and develop together with the consortium and the client the contractual requirements for the Train Services. Establish and manage a change and requirement management for the Trains Service Plan deliverables.

Qualifications:


  • Work Experience: Minimum experience of 5 years in service planning of logistic networks/public transport (preferably rail industry) or similar.
  • Educational Background: At least a Bachelor degree in engineering.
  • Understanding of Rail Services: A foundational understanding of train service planning, including knowledge of both diesel and electric locomotive operations.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assist in the design and assessment of train timetables and service plans.
  • Project Support Experience: Some experience or familiarity with project management principles and practices is beneficial, especially in a collaborative, cross-functional team setting.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus: A keen interest in continuous improvement, with a willingness to learn and apply performance management frameworks and tools.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge or familiarity with modeling tools like Railsys, VIRIATO or similar software is a plus, though not required.
  • Language skills: Fluent in English, including writing and presenting information in the appropriate formats to various stakeholders. French is a plus.
