We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial and contract management of a major national infrastructure program focused on enhancing railway systems and operations. This multi-year project requires rigorous cost control, contract management, and financial oversight to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory frameworks.


The successful candidate will be responsible for cost forecasting, contract administration, financial re-porting, and risk management, on a NEC4 contract. Working as part of a multidisciplinary commercial team, this role will involve close collaboration with project managers, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure financial integrity and value for money.

Responsibilities:


  • Commercial responsibility for a section of a project supporting the Commercial Manager.
  • Form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for project delivery and client ser-vice.
  • Ensure interim applications for payment and certifications are issued and agreed.
  • Management, administration and settlement of subcontractors' accounts, including accountability for those delegated to your team.
  • Support with the preparation of claims.
  • Integral member of the commercial team
  • Liaising closely with client's representatives, sub-contractors and other consultants to achieve project results whilst maintaining group relationships.
  • Supporting with contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  • Seeking out and managing commercial risks within the project or projects.
  • Supporting with the preparation of monthly contract review reports, communicate key risk, opportunity and change with transparency, in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring the contractual chain between head contract and supply chain is established and maintained for the area of works
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts information.
  • Supporting the development of contractual and commercial input into Project Plans.
  • Identify change and manage the change control process and agreement in a timely manner
  • Adopt appropriate measures for management of risk.
  • Communicating clearly & confidently to a professional standard
  • Keep your manager fully advised of any issue/risk which has arisen or might arise and which could affect the business/project.
  • Provide commercial support to work winning.
  • Oversee all financial aspects of NEC4 contracts, ensuring compliance with contract-specific financial provisions, including Payment Applications, Payment Certificates, and Compensation Events
  • Maintain accurate records of project expenditures, claims, and financial documentation to en-sure full auditability
  • Work closely with the Contract Manager and other stakeholders to monitor and report on the fi-nancial health of the project
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve financial workflows, ensuring all accounting practices are efficient and align with NEC4 processes
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar Construction related field 
  • Professional qualification (e.g., RICS/SCS/ICES) is highly desirable, or working towards APC.
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven Quantity Surveying experience, preferably within the railway or infrastructure sectors
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard contracts such as the NEC suite of contracts, and their operation. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse complex financial data
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and instil a commercial mindset.
  • Willingness to travel as per business and client requirements
